Reevaluate Your Priorities: Why Doing It All Isn’t the Goal

The other day, my husband shared a story that really stuck with me.

He was chatting with one of his golf buddies—a retired criminal defense attorney who spent most of his life buried in cases, chasing deadlines, and working long hours. One afternoon, in the middle of a busy trial week, his wife asked him to pick up milk and bread on the way home. Simple enough, right?

But he was so deep in thought about the case that he walked right past the shop and drove straight home—completely forgetting.

His wife wasn’t upset about the milk and bread. She was hurt that, for a moment, he’d forgotten them. Not on purpose—but because his priorities had become skewed. It wasn’t about groceries. It was about presence.

That hit me.

Why Are You Doing All of This Anyway?

We don’t start businesses just to “be busy.” Most of us do it because we want freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment. But somewhere along the way, we try to do everything ourselves and forget that it’s okay to not be the designer, the marketer, the admin, and the boss all at once.

So, here’s a gentle nudge: it’s time to reevaluate your priorities.

Not to give up on your goals or dreams—but to remember why you started and what truly matters to you.

Whether that’s being more present at home, feeling less stressed in your business, or finally having time to focus on your actual clients—it’s possible. You don’t have to do it all alone.

A Few Ways to Take Some Pressure Off:

1. Hire a Virtual Assistant

Admin tasks, inboxes, blog updates—they take up hours you could be using elsewhere. A VA can help you stay on top of things so you’re not constantly behind.

2. Stop Struggling with Social Media

Creating content, writing captions, researching hashtags, and scheduling posts can be a full-time job. If it’s stressing you out or always falling to the bottom of your to-do list, it’s time to hand it over to someone who actually enjoys it.

3. Let Go of the “I Have to Learn Everything” Mentality

You don’t need to learn how to build a website if that’s not your thing. Focus on your zone of genius and let someone experienced handle the rest.

4. Design Matters—But It Doesn’t Have to Be Your Job

Your logo, business cards, and brand identity are a big deal. A graphic designer can bring your vision to life in ways that align with your business and connect with your audience.
